About the Department

The Department of Elementary Mathematics Education was established in 2009 within the body of Muş Alparslan University and started to accept students in the 2009-2010 academic year. Program’s primary purpose is to train Mathematics Teachers for secondary school 5-6-7-8 classes. Students who successfully complete this program are entitled to receive a Bachelor's Degree (Mathematics Education) in the field of Mathematics Education Undergraduate Program. Most of the students graduated are working as mathematics teachers or administrators in secondary schools, colleges and private teaching institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. As of the 2020-2021 academic year, 10 lecturers, including 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 4 doctor lecturers, and 2 research assistants, are working.

Mission

The Elementary Mathematics Education Program was established to provide a high-quality program for students to follow and learn the latest technologies, as well as to engage in applied and theoretical research. The undergraduate program has been prepared in accordance with a common education strategy and an understanding of gaining experience by making practice. Thus, it will be possible to easily adapt new techniques in the field of education. The program includes General Mathematical Skills, Mathematical Thinking, Technology Supported Mathematics.

Vision

Our department has adopted the vision to train teachers who adopt technology as a necessary tool for mathematics, and who are well versed in the design and use of tools. In this context, learning approaches are used to convey mathematical thinking and deepen students' understanding, using technological tools, establishing connections between mathematics education and other fields, applying well-structured lessons with measurable learning evaluations  and skills that will enable students to develop positive attitudes.
